Womens Cross Country Shoes

When it comes to buying shoes, we all know that every kind of shoe fits differently, and we don’t always necessarily take the same size in every pair of shoes that we wear.  This is no different when it comes to women’s cross country shoes, and that is why it is important to shop around for the right shoe.

Obviously, you know your own body, but how well do you know your feet?  For example, do you know which way your foot rolls each time you step (pronating)?  Do you have high or low arches?  Do you have wide or narrow feet?  These are all things that you need to consider when you are looking for women’s cross country shoes.

Here are a few more things to remember when you are buying running shoes:

  • Tell the salesperson about any abnormalities with your feet, such as fallen arches or the need for orthotics.  That way, he or she will be able to use this information in deciding on the right pair of women’s cross country shoes for you.
  • Because our feet swell when we run, women’s cross country shoes (actually, anyone’s shoes) should be at least a half size larger than regular shoes.  This will give the runner plenty of toe room, which is incredibly important.  You don’t want bruised toes or blackened toenails that end up falling off.
  • Walk (run if you are allowed) around the store in each pair of women’s cross country shoes that you try on.  Some sports shoe stores even have a treadmill so you can really run.  Don’t forget to wear the socks that you will be wearing when you run.
  • You may purchase a pair of women’s cross country shoes and wear them for a week, only to discover that they really aren’t as comfortable as you originally thought.  You can’t return them at this point, so you will just have to bite the bullet and get another pair.
  • You shouldn’t have to replace your women’s cross country shoes any more than every 300 to 400 miles of running.  If they wear out any sooner, you have not gotten the best pair of shoes.  But you will have learned a lesson too, and will not buy that type of shoes again.
  • Don’t buy shoes just because everyone else has them.  Just because your best friend thinks they are the best women’s cross country shoes ever made doesn’t mean that they will be right for you.  Also, ignore the bright colors and flashy images.  These don’t improve your performance at all, and just add extra dollars to the cost of the shoes.
  • If you do need to wear orthotics, bring them with you when you are trying on new shoes.  There is no sense in bringing home a pair of shoes, only to find that the orthotics don’t fit in properly.  Also, once you have taken the original insole out, if it was glued in, many stores won’t allow a refund.

Now, get out there, get a great pair of women’s cross country shoes and start running, for fun and for your health.
